How to add Fantom (FTM) to MetaMask?

A step by step guide on how to connect the Fantom chain to MetaMask. Read more!

Fantom is an L1 blockchain that aims to offer higher transaction throughput at lower costs. It follows a different consensus algorithm compared to other Permissionless L1 blockchains, which is known as Lachesis. It is said to help in speedy execution of transactions without compromising security. The native token of the network is FTM. It currently has a TVL of $470 million.

In this article, we will walk you through the steps of adding the Fantom network to your MetaMask wallet.

Install, configure and access MetaMask

To get started with the process, you will first need to set up your MetaMask. Once done, head over to the “Extensions” tab in the top right corner (in case you don’t see it, just toggle the “puzzle” button in the top right corner and select MetaMask. Add it to your extensions bar by simply by clicking the “pin” button).

Once it’s open, log in to your wallet and select the “Expanded View” version. It will open in a new tab.

You will be redirected to a new screen like this.

Select the colored disk that has your account name on it. Please note that you can modify the account name to personalize it yourself.

Select the “Networks” tab on the left side of the screen. A new page will load (as shown in the screenshot below) where you can see the networks. You can now select “Add a network” to add the Fantom chain.

Add the main FTM network to MetaMask

To add Fantom to your MetaMask, you will need the network details. Although this information is offered by various online sources, you should not trust all of them, as you may end up being a victim of phishing attacks. It is always recommended to check these network details in the official documentation of that chain. You can find it here. I’m listing that information here for convenience as well.

Network Name: Fantom Opera

2. RPC Urlhttps://rpc.ankr.com/fantom/

3.ChainID: 250

4.Symbol: FTM

5.Block Explorer URLhttps://ftmscan.com/

Now simply add this information in the appropriate boxes.

Once you have added the network, click “Save”. You will be redirected to a new screen in this expanded version of the MetaMask wallet where you will find all your assets listed. You can now use your wallet address to start transferring assets.

Add Fantom Testnets to MetaMask

If you have never explored the net before and are very new to it, it is best to familiarize yourself with it using your version of testnets. In this way, you can test the network, its DApps and various other functionalities without having to put your real money at stake.
You can add the Fantom testnets to your MetaMask wallet by adding these network details. Remember that the process of adding the test network will be the same as adding the main network.

Network Name: Fantom testnet
