How to add Klaytn to MetaMask

Here's how to add the Klaytn network to your MetaMask wallet.

Klaytn is a public blockchain that was created to focus on the metaverse, GameFi, and the creator economy. It launched in June 2019 and established itself as the dominant blockchain platform in South Korea. The Ethereum-compatible chain is now undergoing a global business expansion from its base in Singapore, spearheaded by the Klaytn Foundation.

The Klaytn blockchain adopts the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) standard and uses the hub-and-spoke model to scale as its ecosystem grows. It also focuses on decentralization: its Governing Council expands to 50 members and aims to incorporate leading decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs).

The network’s native token is KLAY, and at the time of writing, the total value locked (TVL) on the network is $280 million.
In this article, we will learn how to add the Klaytn network to MetaMask.

Setting up your MetaMask wallet

You will need to configure your MetaMask wallet before interacting with the network. If you have used MetaMask before, you know that it comes with some Ethereum mainnet and some of its testnets already added to the wallet. However, all other networks can be easily added to the wallet.

If you are a new user, first download MetaMask on your browser (eg Chrome) or mobile device.

Once downloaded, you can “pin” MetaMask to your “Extensions” dashboard in the top right corner of your browser screen. To do so simply click the “pin” button in the “Extensions” list.

Add a new network in MetaMask

First, access the wallet and click on “Expanded view”.

By clicking on the “Expanded View”, your MetaMask wallet will open in a new browser tab.

To add the new network to your wallet, simply go to the round button in the upper right corner and click on the “Settings” option in the dropdown menu.

You will see numerous options on the left panel of your screen. These options help you configure your MetaMask wallet to best suit your needs.

For the sake of this guide, click on the “Networks” tab. This will open a new menu which you can see below. Click the “Add a network” button to add your network.

Add Klaytn Mainnet to MetaMask

Any network you want to add to your MetaMask wallet requires you to enter network details such as chain ID, RPC URL, and more.

You can easily find this information in the official network documentation. Look for a MetaMask guide or similar in the official documentation to find it. For Klaytn, these network details can be accessed here.
To add the Klaytn network to your wallet, simply copy and paste the following information.

Network Name: Klaytn Mainnet

New RPC URL: https://public-node-api.klaytnapi.com/v1/cypress

Chain ID: 8217

Currency Symbol: KLAY

Block Explorer URL: https://scope.klaytn.com

Once you add these details, you will be redirected to the network screen. You can then copy your MetaMask wallet address and start transferring funds. Remember to transfer only funds supported by the network or you will lose them.
